In bid for Oklahoma labor commissioner, widow vows
focus on workplace violence, mental health The wife of slain Labor
Commissioner Mark Costello wants to carry on her husband's legacy by becoming
the next labor commissioner. Cathy Costello announced
Tuesday she has asked Gov. Mary Fallin to appoint her to serve the remainder of
her husband's term. “I am ready, willing,
qualified and energized to continue the work that Mark started at the
Department of Labor,” she said in a video announcement posted to YouTube. In her video,
Cathy Costello pledges to improve mental health services in the
workplace, if appointed. She mentions the employees and patrons of the
restaurant where her husband was attacked and the tragedy they witnessed as an
instance of workplace violence.
Fallin will appoint a successor to serve the remainder
of Costello's term, which ends in 2018. Deputy Commissioner Stacy Bonner is
acting commissioner in the interim
