OrionNet Systems is deploying
their changes for ICD-10 next week in order to stay on track with the ICD-9 to
ICD-10 transition.
October 1, 2015 is the
deadline for implementing ICD-10 and many medical specialties will be hit hard
by this change as the number of diagnostic codes increases from approximately
13,000 codes in ICD-9 to approximately 68,000 codes in ICD-10.
“After the deployment, my
team will be contacting each and every one of our member agencies to make sure
they know how to fix and reconcile their ICD-9 to ICD-10,” said Clyde Wafford,
president of OrionNet Systems.
The codes used to submit to
Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and virtually all other insurers
will change to ICD-10. Every diagnostic code currently used by therapists will
become instantly obsolete. Patient
charges submitted after October 1 with the outdated ICD-9 codes will be
returned unpaid. Therapists will either adapt to the new coding system or not
receive payment.
Among some of the changes
made during this transition is the removal of the Axis.
“Since ICD-10 diagnoses codes
are more granular, ODMHSAS is dropping fields such as Axis III & IV which
were used to expand upon the limited explanation of an ICD-9 code,” said Clyde
Wafford. “Removing the Axis is just another part of transitioning to ICD-10, so
we have removed the Axis from the Assessment, Treatment Plan, Discharge Summary
and Doctor Notes.”
Mr. Wafford is dedicated to
making sure that all of his clients make it through the transition seamlessly.
“We are ready, ThinkHealth is
ready, and I am confident my team can help our clients get ready for ICD-10,”
said Clyde Wafford.
