Oklahoma’s Behavioral Health
Industry has been devastated by the massive budget cuts over the last few
years. With the next fiscal year quickly approaching, another budget shortfall
is inevitable. Agencies are searching for other funding opportunities to help
sustain there business so they can continue to render services to our Oklahoma
Citizens.
SAMHSA provides a list of Federal Funding
Opportunity Announcements on there website. https://www.samhsa.gov/grants/grant-announcements-2017
Applying for Federal
Funding Grants is not a simple endeavor. It takes time to find and research
them, understanding the purpose and expectations for funding, meeting the
eligibility criteria, completing the application process, and finally the
submission, evaluation, and selection process. Applying for an FOA, although
time consuming would be an enormous benefit to agencies and the clients they
provide services for. Having extra funding during Oklahoma’s budget crisis
would assist agencies in keeping the doors open and the ability to
provide appropriate services and care to the community.
The majority of Federal
Grant Opportunities require the use of a certified EHR or an electronic health record
system. In the SAMHSA’s FOA (funding Opportunity Announcement) Part II it
states, “Electronic Health Record (EHR) Technology: All SAMHSA grantees who
provide services to individuals are encouraged to demonstrate ongoing clinical
use of a certified EHR system in each year of their SAMHSA grant. A certified
EHR is an electronic health record system that has been tested and certified by
an approved Office of National Coordinator’s (ONC) certifying body.”
